AI AND EDUCATION
AI (Artificial Intelligence) is an informatic branch dedicated to create systems capable of performing tasks that are normally require of human intelligence. The initial concepts of AI began to develop in the 1940s and 1950s with the appearance of the first electronic computer. Nowadays, it has experienced an exponential growth due to the increase in processing capacity, the availability of large volumes of data (Big Data) or advances in deep learning algorithms.
This AI has had a significant impact in the field of education, transforming the way it's taught and learned and creating a discussion about whether or not this tool should be used.
According to the article published on May 17 by El País: "Por qué prohibir a los niños usar ChatGPT no es una buena idea" AI can offer significant benefits in learning if used appropriately. This tool can help students explore difficult concepts, foster curiosity, and provide personalized assistance that may not always be available in a traditional classroom setting. Additionally, learning to interact with these technologies prepares students for a future where AI will be an integral part of many professions and aspects of daily life.
For this reason, educators and parents should focus on teaching children how to use these tools critically and ethically, helping them understand that this technology should be used as a complement, not as a substitute for critical thinking and creativity.
